6/7/2023 0 Comments Watchme ureDo not toss treats because you run the risk of encouraging your dog to get up to receive treats. It's all about returning to your dog in order to reward. That's not to say you can return to your dog, place five treats between his front paws, as he is chewing the last treat you ask him to "stay" again (as long as he is still staying), and you leave the room again. The key is to always return to your dog in order to reward him. It's just like teaching stay, and you do not need a separate command for attention work. I am going over this rather quickly, but really this is all within a few months period. Then, after I can be across the room and get my girls attention and keep it, I work on adding distraction. Then, I begin to work on distance, and I decrease the duration. Then, I work on eye contact for a full thirty seconds. Then, it's a bit longer, maybe three seconds. At first, it's immediate eye contact gets treat. When I say my girls name, I try to have her eye connect with my for an extended period of time before giving her a treat. If you work too much at "watch me" your dog may not respond as much when you use his name. You do not have to teach "watch me" that is just another cue to teach when you could be working on reinforcing your dogs name. When I say my girls name, I want her to look at me, and be ready to listen to me for the next cue. They're the same exact thing. ![]() Please flair your posts using its flair link (not, and so on)! See our flair guide for help.
